Psychotherapy  Services

When a bump … or a boulder … in the road throws life out of balance, psychotherapy, or “talk therapy” can facilitate healing, growth and change.   With the help of an experienced therapist, balance is restored and/or a new normal is adapted.  Over the 27+ years of doing therapy in Connecticut, I continue to believe it truly is a collaboration between the therapist and client in a warm, safe, judgment-free environment.  Confidentially, we begin by clarifying the issues and discussing your goals.  I help you process the feelings, the effects and impacts of these issues on the relevant aspects of your life.  Then we identify your inherent strengths and utilize these to develop optimal strategies towards effective, long term solutions.  Best of all, talking through issues helps to ease the pressure and stress of dealing with problems alone.  It also provides the confidentiality to look at personal issues with ultimate privacy.

My Approach

My style is interactive, educational and integrative. I listen and provide feedback.  My Midwest origins contribute to a warm, friendly atmosphere while my sense of humor helps put you at ease.  Because I see each individual as unique, I find the most success combining a variety of therapeutic approaches.  At times I may offer/recommend articles, podcasts or books for further information or exploration into a subject.  I am known to assign homework for between sessions to expedite the effectiveness of therapy, thereby honoring your financial and personal commitment to it.  I am a lifelong competitor in sports and bring this experience to my work with athletes and the unique issues they face including performance, identity, and body image.  On the other hand, having started my career in business, I understand the complex challenges of balancing corporate and home life.  You will complete therapy essentially outfitted with a toolbox of lifelong management skills.

I integrate the following:

  • Insight Oriented Psychotherapy
  • Brain Based Therapy
  • Solution Focused Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Family Systems Therapy
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Mindfulness
  • Sports Psychology
  • Stress Management & Stress Reduction

Therapeutic influences include:

  • Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
  • Psychoanalytic Theory
  • Family Systems Theory
  • Attachment Theory
  • Relational Theory
  • Brain Research
  • Buddhism & Spirituality

When a deeper understanding of issues is combined with healthy coping skills and a broadened perspective, positive change is not only possible, but inevitable.
